As a digital marketing agency, we feel like it’s our civic duty to bring you the latest news and developments to the major social media platforms we use on a daily basis. Here’s the latest tweaks that’s got the social community talking…
Instagram officially launches new captions stickers for stories;
Rolled out in a few countries, the rest to follow, Instagram now allows you to add a captions sticker in stories (which will soon be introduced to Reels as well). So what exactly does this mean? These caption stickers will be automatically generated according to the audio input – almost like a ‘subtitle’ feature.
You’re probably thinking that at times these auto-captions won’t be 100% correct, which they won’t, but a user will be able to edit the text, the position, the colour and the font to make sure your story brings in those views!
They’re calling this feature ‘Sound off’ – so you don’t necessarily have to post videos with the audio on! It’s probably worth mentioning that Facebook is also in the process of developing a captions option for Facebook stories. In essence, the introduction of these captions is to boost engagement on stories, by providing new means and ways for users to reach a wider audience by making sure that video stories can be understood by the masses whether the sound is on or off.
Facebook is testing out a new warning prompt that stops users from sharing articles they haven’t actually read;
Okay, so Facebook is introducing new alert prompts which will appear when users attempt to share an article on Facebook which they haven’t opened themselves. This is all in an effort to promote more informed sharing of news articles (because we’re sure EVERYONE hates fake news). What will the prompt say? It will be a message encouraging the user to open the article link and read it, before sharing this with other users on Facebook. The prompt will also alert the user to the potential risks of sharing an article they haven’t read. Users will have to reconsider sharing links without understanding the full context of the article.
Whatsapp intends to introduce a ‘Logout’ feature in 2021.
Whatsapp ‘logout’ will be intended to replace the ‘delete account’ option. This feature will allow for users to simply logout of the Whatsapp application, much like one can log out of Facebook or Instagram. This will definitely help seeing that Whatsapp also intends to introduce multiple device logins (not just for 2 devices, but up to 4 devices at once).
Social media platforms are constantly evolving, and new features are being added all the time to make sure that users are constantly engaged with each platform. We’ll do our best to keep you up-to-date with these changes!
